Panying (Eagle) kites are a traditional form of Chinese kite flown via a reel; they are usually hand-painted and made of bamboo, silk and paper. Flying an eagle is very meditative and requires focus as well as a gentle touch; it can be hours of fun in the morning or on a day where wind is 0 - 5mph.

I have worked with artisans in China to make this offering available for the very first time in the U.S.

Please Note this is a PRE ORDER package, this listing will close on April 30th and eagles should be shipped by the end of May or early June. Eagles are fragile yet pretty durable for a bamboo and paper product, you will need to be cautious when learning, having some prior experience with gliders (available soon here) is beneficial. We can attempt to repair your eagle if necessary but in some case it might not be possible.

The bundle includes:

1 Little Crab printed Eagle at 1.15 Meters This high aspect eagle is designed for the beginner and glides well. The Sichuan artisans framing work is very sturdy and precise, his more advanced creations are known for performing high up in more wind. This creation is printed as to be more affordable for the beginner to learn without risking too much damage to more expensive gliders.

1 Anshan Panying Eagle around 1.1 Meters Lian ming Ying (70) from Anshan city Liaoning province uses Chinese mortise and tenon technology with 10 year old bamboo to produce some very high quality eagles. The birds can glide and also perform in a variety of wind conditions he has been making kites for over 30 years. This bird was selected as it is durable and well painted, flying this eagle will help establish a good foundation for other birds.

1 34 cm wheel from Tao Ramnu Tao Ramnu has been making Panying Wheels for over 10 years, his first interaction with panying was in Beijing. This 34cm wheel is made from pultruded carbon spokes and was selected due to its durability, affordability and high quality construction.

For flying your eagles It is best to use high quality pe1 rated fishing line, outside of china 10 - 15 lb yozuri super braid is a good option. Rough line will wear the eyelet of your wheel. If you would like to purchase the preferred Dalima line, please choose this option.
